Temanggung Regency or Kabupaten Temanggung in Indonesian Language is a regency in the Central Java (Jawa Tengah Province of Indonesia. It covers a land area of 870.65 km² and had a population of 708,546 at the 2010 Census and 790,174 at the 2020 Census. Its capital is the town of also called Temanggung.

All travellers going to the Dieng Temple Complex from Yogyakarta or Semarang have to pass through this regency. Temanggung Regency is located on the volcanic Dieng Plateau with an average elevation between 500 and 1450 meters. It is landlocked. The volcanoes Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing rise on its border with the Wonosobo Regency. Its major drainage system is the Progo River and its tributaries.

Although, Temanggung is not very popular as tourist destination, Temanggung is popular for its agriculture products. The main commodity of Temanggung is Tobacco. It is the biggest income for the regency. Tobacco from Temanggung is famous for its quality and it is produced to supply top brand of Indonesian Cigarette Company.

Beside of Tobacco, Temanggung is also famous for other agriculture products like coffee, tea, spices and any others. Especially for coffee, Temanggung produced the top quality of Arabica and Robusta. Both type of coffee had already been exported worldwide.

Transportation Option to go from Yogyakarta to Temanggung

There are several transportation options from Yogyakarta toTemanggung. I will let you know any possibilities. Hopefully you can choose which is the best one for you.

Bus from Yogyakarta to Temanggung

Going to Temanggung from Yogyakarta by bus is the cheapest option. There are 2 kind of bus that can take you from Yogyakarta to Temanggung, economy and executive bus. For economy bus, you can catch it in Jombor Bus Terminal, for the executive one, you can catch it in Giwangan Bus Terminal (main terminal of Yogyakarta ) 

For the economy bus, It is aways available every 30 minutes. The economy bus will cost you around IDR 40.0000 / person, but it doesn’t go directly, you will need to stop first in Magelang Bus Terminal and change the bus to continue your journey to Temanggung. And it will have no air conditioner for around 3 hours journey. The connecting bus fromo Magelang to Temanggung is not a big bus, but 3/4 bus.

If you choose the executive one, it will be faster and will go directly to Temanggung. It will cost you around IDR 70.000. When you choose the bus as your choice, I suggest you to stop in Temanggung Bus Terminal or Parakan District depends on where is your final destination. However, this bus is not only connecting Yogyakarta and Temanggung only but connnecting Surabaya City until Purwokerto Regency. The name of the bus is EKA. And, for now I do not have time schedule for this bus (EKA), but the last information I get, the bus will pass Yogyakarta City every 2 hours.

Shuttle Service to go from Yogyakarta to Semarang City (Joglosemar and Daytrans)

Shuttle will be another public transport option. I can recommend you 2 popular shuttle service that connecting Yogyakarta and Temanggung Regency. Those are Rama Sakti and Joglosemar. Both shuttle services will cost you around IDR 80.000 to IDR 100.000. You can check the schedule and price of the shuttle connecting Yogyakarta and Temanggung via its website. For me, shuttle would be more comfortable than the bus and the time is more accurate. However, you have to consider once you stop in the stop point in Temangung, you have to change to local transport. And the local transport in Temanggung is limited. You have to contact your accomodation in Temanggung, ask them if they have pick up service or not. If not, you have to book online taxi (Gojek or Grab) to take you to the final destination.

Taxi from Yogyakarta to Temanggung

You can order online taxi to take you from Yogyakarta to Temanggung Regency. Taxi will be much more expensive, compared by buses or shuttle service, but if you will go in a group more than 2 people or you have some luggage to bring, taxi will be worth it. It will give you a direct transport from your accommodation in Yogyakarta till your final destination in Temanggung. You will not need to change to several transportation unlike if you choose public transports.

The rate of online taxi will be around IDR 600.000 depends on the starting point and the final destination and takes around 2 hours.

Book Your Private Transport from Yogyakarta To Temanggung

Rent a Motorbike

If you are an adventurous, going from Yogyakarta to Temanggung by motorbike can be your choice. However, I do not recommend if you are not an expert. Riding a motorcycle in Java Island is not for everyone except you have already stayed here for years. But if you just come to Java Island, it will not be a good idea for you to try riding motorbike.

But everything is your choice, if you think you are expert enough to ride a bike, you can rent a motorbike in Prawirotaman Street. In this street, there are a lot of motorbike rental that you can try.

So, once again, you have some option to take you from Yogyakarta to Temanggung. You can choose from the cheapest to the most convenient.
